vocations

To Durham, St Chads      from all over the place,
on Friday we came      to meet face to face.
With Michael and Richard,      with Trish, Paul and Rob –
to see if we’re up      to doing their job.

The stories we told      were manifold –
with hopes and fears,      both laughter and tears.
Prayerfully, powerfully,       joyfully too,
we packed so much in –      time just flew.

The steps of our journeys,      both old and new,
have commonalities –      more than a few.
Our deepest secrets      we may have shared,
in groupwork,      where we felt each cared.

In library, chapel, quad       it was clear,
something was tangible,      God was near.
In 48 hours      we built a bond strong,
through talking and listening,      through worship and song.

And now we go home      with decisions to make,
about our futures,      the road to take.
It’s been truly awesome,      do you not think that too?
So therefore our humblest      thanks are due

To Richard, to Michael,      to Trish and the Bish,
to Michael (the Dean),      to both Robs and to Paul
Till we meet up again,      may God bless us all.
