Well well. I've been in secondlife again this week. And far from falling out of windows, bumping into doors, and generally being exceedingly pathetic, I've been having fun. This is not a work entry, and I'm not going to start being boring on it, because I still don't fully understand, but while in a workshop yesterday I found a couple of places with helpful posters on moving etc that I've never quite grasped, and felt capable of exploring a bit. This morning I joined a few groups in facebook about second life, and found an intriguing blog post about not trying to recreate first life educational experiences but to trust in the immersion. There were links to suggestions for studying religion in second life via a temple, an anglican cathedral etc. What? You heard,
an anglican cathedral. Well off I set. And there I am in a cathedral. Cool. I've just been back in now I'm home this evening (still slightly disbelieving that my laptop functions better than my desktop at work) and followed up a few links from the chap who built it.
Mark Brown, a new zealander, has a
blog of his own, and a
blog for the second life anglican cathedral, which now runs three services on a sunday, is hiring priests in each main time zone, and he - get this - is just being licensed by his bishop as a self-supporting minister with responsibility for this online environment. Amazing. He's also recently been
interviewed, worth a listen.
