Lol. Lanny has taken up an implicit challenge, it seems, and provided me today's blog
post as a '
podcast'! Ive contemplated it, but 'Mike 16 ' made a pig's breakfast of mine. (probably can't blame him really!) Which makes me add some other thoughts that were floating around when I wrote the first one. If you weren't with us back then, you might need to revise
this and
this. My blog isn't particularly anonymous, so lots of you know who I am. At least you know my gender. Many of you also know exactly what I sound like. So if I did as Lanny has done, and dropped my text onto text aloud, would that be ok? Hearing my words spoken by a computer? Probably, because it sounds like a computer. Would it be better as a girl computer than a boy computer?! What about if I trained my dad, who's retired, to apend his leisurely mornings reading out my blog posts as a podcast (well ok, maybe not all of them!! - ok, then, any bloke)? What about that? Would that be strange but sort of ok? Especially if you don't know me, but would you feel that my blog doesn't read like it's written by a man? (if you didn't know and I changed the name and took the photos etc down, what would you assume was my gender? Well, ok, if I did all of that there'd be very little blog left, huh?) Then what about if I got a female friend to read them? Would that be fine for those of you who don't know what I sound like - up until you met me in the flesh and then it would be weirder than not knowing my real name and thinking I was really called Frances? But sort of odd for those of you who do know what I sound like, because it wouldn't quite match up with your brain's knowledge? Are there gradations of this? ie if Anna read them, who has a similar accent (actually scrap that, it's only similar when she's with me, it's probably more kiwi by now!), or worse, my mum, who sounds (so I'm told, oh what potential for amusement...) very very much like me (or vice versa) so that you would be pretty 99% certain it was me, but maybe not absolutely totally entirely sure...... wonder if you'd be able to tell... Anyway, I was wondering how it would affect what you thought, how you heard the underlying voice of my blog. Whether it would be stranger for the people who know me, and think my blog 'sounds' like me, or for people who don't know me, when they met me at a later date...?? Wonder if it's time for a poll on some different voice recordings?
