Tags or categories? Paul has started a blog. Which looks, like Andy's podcasting one, quite different from mine. I can't see the same templates, only the ones I had to choose from to start with. I've been thinking again recently as to how I'd remodel my web pages if I actually properly uploaded all the stuff I took down from Durham up into my personal space. But maybe I don't need my personal space, because I could put extra pages on my blog, and then change the url. But I still don't reall y have any more time to build te kind of ideas I have than I did 18 months ago. Only I think I do have a much greater awareness of social networking software, and I think the way I'd design a new homepage now would possibly be quite different from back then. Or at least, some of it would be the same, but I'd have more idea what and why I wanted to that that with it. I still haven't totally lost the reason for plain pages, and I still have things on my old website that aren't anywhere else (which is possibly a good thing, in the case of some of the photographs!) One of the new widgets I've switched on today is the tags. For two reasons - one, Andy has started using them on his blog as an option for FAQs, and because we were talking about the difference between categories and tags. Now I've always had my categories, and our TeesBblog used categories. I've never tagged. I thought about it when tags came in, and then carried on using my categories. I've even added a couple more categories, that, if I'm honest, haven't made it into the section list... Nor have I really used the linkblog when it came out, as I already have a delicious site, and when I had a go and looked at it it was horrid. And there didn't seem to be  a way I could edit the css with regard to the layout of the linkblog. Looked a bit like that at first with the tags. Though when you get a few there it looks better. I mean, I already use tags in my Flickr pics, so I ought to be able to do it. Though when I tag my photos I use the kind of things I'd categorise on here... We even picked up some tagging effect in our Blackboard alternative login page, which I think is really cool. But can I tag my blog entries?? Without repeating the categories, was the challenge I set myself? Failed. I found it really hard. Which is a bit annoying really, cos I really like the look of tag clouds, and I think I would like one on my blog. Perhaps I should ditch the categories and use the categories terms in tags instead? Not sure. Jury is still out.........

Edited: see - how can I not put blogging as a tag. I have to add that, even though it's there as a category. And none of this was what I meant to blog about tonight. I have half a dozen things adding up. I foresee another 3 shredded what day coming up!
